Why Animal Products Are Beneficial for Hypothalamic Amenorrha Recovery and Fertility
Many women avoid animal products for ethical and/or health reasons. I don't want to give any blanket advice; it is absolutely possible to recover on a vegetarian or vegan diet. However, if you want to recover from Hypothalamic Amenorrhea or are trying to conceive it may be wise to consider reintroducing animal products as meat and dairy. In this post I explain why.
What is meant by animal products?
Before we look at the advantages with animal products in Hypothalamic Amenorrha Recovery, let´s define what is meant by animal products. Animal products are all foods that derive from animals. For example are these products gold for someone trying to recover from Hypothalamic Amenorrhea or to conceive.
liver
red meat
eggs
cheese
milk
full-fat dairy
oysters
fatty fish
What are the benefits of animal products in Hypothalamic Amenorrha Recovery
In general, animal products contain vitamins, minerals and fats that are more easily absorbed than plant-based products. Among other things, animal products are an excellent source of:
Iron
Zinc
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B12
Cholesterol (a building block that is needed to produce hormones such as estrogen and progesterone, you can read all about this HERE).
These minerals and vitamins are crucial for a healthy menstrual cycle (HERE you can read more about how). It is possible to get these substances from plant bases sources as well, the difference lies in the bio-availability and concentration, which is significantly better and higher in animal sources. And for someone with HA or trying to conceive, consuming a variety of nutrient-dense foods, including foods that are rich in bio-available vitamins and minerals, is key. So in my view it might be reasonable to at least consider reintroducing animal-derived products for health reasons.
